Team Leader - Advisory Services (City Development)

Dunedin Central, New Zealand

Reference: 5502251

We are now looking for an experienced Urban Designer or Architectural professional to take up the new role of Team Leader Advisory Services in the City Development Team. We are particularly interested in someone with experience in urban planning and design and with proven people management and project leadership skills.

The City Development team is responsible for Dunedin's Spatial Plan, District Plan and a range of other planning, heritage, biodiversity and urban design projects as well as expert input into resource consents.

One of the key challenges for City Development is planning for a growing city and ensuring that growth and development happens in a way that delivers a high-quality urban fabric that maintains and enhances the unique character and high amenity of Dunedin. Key aspects of that character are our compact city form, historic built environment, cultural heritage, and rich natural environment. Managing these aspects and promoting their enhancement will be a key focus of this position.

The team leader will be expected to contribute urban design advice at a senior level and develop and provide leadership to the urban designers, heritage adviser and biodiversity adviser in the City Development team.

The Team Leader will be responsible for development, management and reporting related to the key streams of work for the Advisory Services team, including:

  • Input into strategic and policy documents, including the spatial plan and the 2GP
  • Advisory services provided as part of the resource consent process (including the need for increased input into the design of greenfield developments and intensification areas)
  • Urban amenity improvement, heritage and biodiversity projects.

Reporting to the City Development Manager, the Team Leader will be part of the City Development leadership team, along with other team leaders and senior members of the City Development team.

If you are an experienced urban design professional, with people and project leadership experience, and you are looking to make a difference in how Dunedin becomes one of the world's great small cities - then we would love to hear from you.
